Visakhapatnam · Established 1975

A school with deep roots, and a wide canopy.

For fifty years, from one campus in the heart of Akkayyapalem, we have taught children to think clearly, speak truly, and grow steadily. Nursery to Class 10, English medium.

"Helping hands are better than praying lips."
— Our founding belief
01 — Philosophy

We do not chase children. We plant shade, and they come.

A banyan does not advertise. It grows, year after year, until its canopy covers a village. Travellers rest beneath it without being invited. Parents trust it without being convinced. That is the kind of school we set out to be in 1975 — and the kind of school we still try to be.

We teach reading, arithmetic, science, and English with rigour. But we care just as much about a child who learns to share, to speak honestly, to finish what she started, and to help a younger student find her classroom on the first day.

Our teachers receive three words of encouragement for every one of correction. Our parents are treated as partners, not customers. Our children are measured by progress, not perfection.

"A child is not a vessel to be filled, but a lamp to be lit — slowly, patiently, with both hands."
02 — What we teach

Four pillars, one child.

i.

Academic rigour, gently delivered

State syllabus, strong English foundation, Telugu and Hindi literacy. Mathematics built step by patient step, so no child is left wondering. Science that begins with questions, not answers.

ii.

Character, before credentials

Honesty, punctuality, kindness, and the courage to admit a mistake. We believe a child's report card should tell us who she is becoming, not only what she has memorised.

iii.

Activities that reveal a child

Spell Bee, Chess, Sudoku, LEAD-IT, Badminton, Kho-Kho, debate, music, art — twenty pursuits beyond the classroom. Every child finds at least one that fits her shape.

iv.

Rooted locally, aware globally

A child of Visakhapatnam should know her city, her state, her country — and then her world. We teach pride without narrowness, and curiosity without rootlessness.

v.

Technology, used not worshipped

Our own ERP (Skolzen) runs attendance, fees, and parent communication. Sixty CCTV cameras watch every corridor. But screens never replace a teacher's eye or a parent's voice.

vi.

A fair school, for every family

RTE compliant. Transparent fees, no hidden charges. Scholarships and flexibility for families who need them. Because a good education should not be a privilege — it should be a patrimony.

03 — Leadership

08 — Our story

Fifty years, one steady intention.

1975

A small beginning in Akkayyapalem

N.T. School opened its doors with a handful of children, a single classroom, and the conviction that Visakhapatnam deserved an English-medium school that treated every child as its own.

1985

Recognised by the Government of A.P.

After a decade of steady work, formal recognition from the State. The school expanded to include all primary classes and began preparing students for state board examinations.

2000

The SmartKids chapter begins

The SmartKids brand was introduced for our pre-primary wing, bringing activity-based early learning to our youngest students without losing the seriousness of our older sections.

2015

A new generation takes the lead

Leadership transition to the second generation of the founding family. A thousand square yards of owned land in Akkayyapalem, a committed faculty, and a renewed promise to the next fifty years.

2025

Five hundred children, twenty activities, one banyan

We enter our fiftieth year with over 500 students, twenty co-curricular programs, our own school ERP system, and the same promise we began with: that no child who comes under our care will be forgotten.

09 — Voices

From the families who walked with us.

"

My daughter was shy for two years. In her third year at N.T., she stood on stage and spoke — not because they pushed her, but because they waited.

"

The fees are fair, the communication is honest, and when I had a question the principal called me back the same evening. That is rare now. That is why we stay.

RS
Ramesh Srinivas
Parent, Class 7 & Class 9 · since 2017
"

I studied here in the nineties. I now send my son here. Some things in this city have changed beyond recognition — this school, thankfully, has not.

Recent recognitions
District-level wins in Spell Bee, Chess, and Kho-Kho across recent academic years.
Alumni placements in top Intermediate colleges of Vizag — MPC, BiPC, CEC, MEC streams.
Second-generation families — children of our own alumni now studying here. The highest endorsement we could ask for.
Government of A.P. recognition since 1985 — a certification renewed without a single lapse.

We don't publish top-scorer photos, we don't decorate our walls with mark-sheets, and we don't rank our children. But when a parent asks "does your school produce results?" — yes, quietly, it does. And it has, for five decades.

11 — Why NT

What makes this school different.

Visakhapatnam has many schools. Some are bigger. Some are newer. Some charge three times our fees. We do not compete with them on those terms — and we do not need to.

We compete on something older, and in the long run, more durable: the quiet confidence that comes from fifty unbroken years of doing one thing well. Of treating the family in 7B the same way we treated their parents in the nineties. Of answering the phone when it rings.

"The value of a school is not measured in its brochure — it is measured in the graduates it quietly sends out, year after year."
Fifty years in one place
Not a franchise. Not a startup. A single school with a continuous history, known to the neighbourhood, and accountable to it.
Transparent fees, no hidden charges
A clear fee structure, published annually. No "activity fees", "building fund", or surprise charges midway through the year.
Owned land, owned building
One thousand square yards in the heart of Akkayyapalem, owned by the society that runs the school. We are not leaving.
Small classes, known children
Every teacher knows every child by name. When a child is struggling, we notice the same week — not the same semester.
Modern systems, old values
Our own ERP for fees, attendance, and parent communication. Sixty cameras across the campus. But a Principal who will still call you herself when your child has done well.
12 — Compare

How we compare to a typical school search.

We know you're probably looking at three or four schools right now. Good — that's exactly what a careful parent should do. Here is an honest side-by-side, so you can make your decision on facts, not feelings.

Too new for this to apply
A note of honesty: Newer schools bring newer buildings, bigger brochures, and sometimes real innovation. We are not claiming to be the right fit for every family. We are claiming to be exactly what we are — a school that has quietly done its work for fifty years, and will continue to. If that is what you want for your child, welcome.
13 — Questions

The things parents ask us.

These are the questions that come up most often at the office. We've answered them honestly — because if you are choosing a school for your child, you deserve straight answers, not a sales pitch.

Anything we haven't covered? Please call. We would rather spend twenty minutes on the phone with you than have you worry in silence.

Admission enquiries are open year-round, with the main intake window running from December through April each year. Forms are available at the school office, Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 4 pm. We recommend an early visit — the earlier you come, the more time we have to get to know your child.
English medium, with Telugu and Hindi as second and third languages. We believe strong English is essential for modern opportunity — and strong Telugu is essential for rooted identity. We teach both with equal seriousness.
Yes. We are a recognised English-medium school operating under the Government of Andhra Pradesh and registered under BVRM Educational Society. Our students sit for the state SSC board examinations at the end of Class 10, with a strong track record of results.
NT School is fully RTE compliant. We reserve the statutorily mandated seats for eligible children from economically weaker sections, and we treat these students with the same care and dignity as any other. A child's background should never affect how she is taught.
Our fees are transparent and published at the start of each academic year. There is a single tuition fee for each class, a one-time admission fee for new students, and annual amounts for books, uniform, and transport (if opted). We do not charge hidden "activity fees" or mid-year building funds. The full fee schedule is available at the office and on request.
Transport is available for families on request, subject to route and distance. Please ask the office at the time of admission enquiry — we will let you know honestly whether our route serves your location, and what the alternatives are if it does not.
Our students go on to the leading Intermediate (Jr. College) programs across Visakhapatnam — MPC, BiPC, CEC, and MEC streams — and from there to engineering, medicine, commerce, and the arts. We provide guidance during Class 10 on the right next step, and many of our alumni return to tell us how it worked out. Most of them, thankfully, do.
14 — Visit

A proper campus tour — not a sales pitch.

Pick a time that suits your family. We'll walk you through the classrooms, show you the labs and the sports area, and introduce your child to what will become, we hope, her school.

The principal or the correspondent will personally take you around — no queueing, no scripted presentation. Just an honest hour, parent to parent.

45–60 minutes, focused on you A private walk-through, not a group tour. Your questions, your child's reactions, your pace.
2

3
Meet a teacher, not a manager You'll meet at least one classroom teacher from the level your child would join. Ask them anything.
